  13. FlashROM is a tool to update the flash ROM of a SCSI or
  14. ATAPI drive. At the moment it supports Plextor and Yamaha
  15. CD writers. A complete list is given below, together with
  16. remarks about supporting other hardware. Any SCSI or ATAPI
  17. device can be used as long as it is compliant to the Amiga
  18. SCSI direct standard.

  24. shall be held responsible for any damages or losses, direct
  25. or consequential, resulting from the use, or inability to
  26. use the software. This applies even if the authors have been

  29. FlashROM is copyright 1998-99 by Patrick Ohly. Copying and
  30. usage are allowed for free as long as no profit is made in
  31. doing so. Commercial distribution or distribution together
  32. with commercial products or commercial usage of FlashROM

  36. MakeCD + Availability of FlashROM
  37. ---------------------------------
  38. FlashROM was brought to you by the author who also wrote the
  39. SCSI, IO and GUI part of MakeCD, an "excellent" (Amiga Format
  40. #112) CD writing software for the Amiga. In contrast to one
  41. of our competitors I have decided not to restrict the usage
  42. of this tool to the users of our CD writing software.

  44. MakeCD does not need such an exclusive feature to be worth
  45. its money and I don't want anybody to buy it just to update his
  46. or her drive. Of course you are welcome to have a look at
  47. MakeCD in case that you should not know or use it already. An
  48. only slightly restricted demo of the current version is
  49. available at "http://makecd.core.de/". You will also find the
  50. current version of FlashROM there.

  52. I also believe that updating the firmware of drives is not one
  53. of the tasks a CD writing software should take care of. I regret
  54. that our competitor was not able to make their tool available
  55. to the Amiga community for free because of costs they had and
  56. still would have and because of their liability in case of a
  57. damage. I understand their objections and even though I decided
  58. to go a different way I share them, so once again in plain
  59. English: FLASHROM COMES WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY OR SUPPORT!

  105. Support for other drives
  106. ------------------------

  108. Here are my preconditions for adding support of other drives:
  109.  
  110. 1. The vendor supports the implementation by providing the
  111.    documentation of the required commands.
  112. 2. I won't be held liable for any damage.
  113. 3. I get at least one free example of the hardware.
  114. 4. The hardware should be fairly well spreaded.
  115.  
  116. Item 1 and 2 are absolutely necessary - especially analyzing other
  117. software to learn about the required commands is out of question. The
  118. other items however are negotiable: if someone is willing to pay me,
  119. such offers are welcome. I have to live on something in the end, and
  120. eating hardware isn't very healthy ;-)
